The World Edit
The world is called Aeriaña and it is a broken world of islands, land shards that are floating in a sea of clouds. These islands range in size from enough land to support a single village to massive mountains of rock hosting multiple cities. The entire known world is currently adrift in the skies. From the wreckage of the breaking, 200 years ago, great nations have risen anew.
The navies of Novo Albia, the world’s foremost naval power now stalk the clouds bending the other nations to their will with military might and economic power. Novo Albia has built itself an empire out of conquering valuable clusters of land-shards along important trade routes. Other seafaring nations ply the cloud seas as well maintaining an unsteady peace through trade in rare goods, information, art and culture. But Novo Albia is no benevolent ruler; the noble elite feast extravagantly and deck themselves in gems and finery, while the underclasses toil in squalor working in mines and factories for pennies a day. Poverty runs rampant in Novo Albia’s greatest cities and many criminals and convicts are sentenced to years of service; meaning indentured servitude in the Novo Albian Navy.
The tighter Novo Albia squeezes its grip on the skies the more ships and land shards begin to slip through its fingers. Far in the south cloud sea a cluster of free islands have risen as a beacon of hope. The Fortune Isles, a haven for ruffians, freebooters, smugglers and rebel fighters. Branded pirates by the empire these unbound people brave the cloud-seas to carve out their own fortune from the decks of their own ships.
